Wildlife Sanctuary in South India - Mahaveer Harina Vanasthali National Park Hyderabad is situated in Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. The specialty of this park lies in its name. It is believed that the park has been named after the great Jain saint called Mahavir. Mahaveer Harina Vanasthali National Park was so named in the year 1975 on the occasion of the commemoration of 2500 th birth anniversary of Mahavir.
It is maintained that the place where Mahaveer Harina Vanasthali National Park, Hyderabad exists was previously used as the hunting ground. Nizam, the rulers of Hyderabad used to embark on their hunting expedition here. However, there was a deer park which was established to conserve the invaluable heritage and rehabilitate it.
Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park Hyderabad is essentially a home to over 100 species of birds. This beautiful national park includes Partridges, Quails, Peacocks, Doves and birds of prey like Kites and Vultures. However, in this park you can also spot a variety of migratory birds through out the year. In fact the rare short-toed Eagle is other specie found to be nestling in the area.
