Ugra Narasimha Statue Hamp is located to the south of Hampi. It is a massive rock idol that was cut to from the image of Narasimha. This idol projects the fierce aspect of Lord Vishnu. It is a 6.7 m. high statue. Initially, in the statue there was a smaller image of Lakshmi on one knee of the Lord Vishnu. However, due to the massacre this probably has fallen off.
The Ugra Narasimha Statue Hampi depicts Narasimha as seated on the coils of Shesha Naga. This statue contains the seven heads of Shesha Naga arching over Narasimha to form a canopy.
This finest example of sculpture in Hampi projecting God in half Lion and half Man incarnation still looks timeless because of its fantastic architecture. However, in recent times the Ugra Narasimha Statue Hampi was restored. And in this restoration process a granite strap was added between the lord's knees to stabilize it.
The fierce and terrifying expression of the Lord with Laxmi sitting on his lap is a wonderful architectural victory. The entire statue is 6.7 meters in height and the idol of Laxmi was completely mutilated and shattered in the year 1565. This idol of the Narasimha was well designed and has a
large bulging eyes and broad chest, but has an awesome charm associate with him.
The unique feature of this statue is that it has been constructed out of a single boulder. Hard Granite is available in plenty nearby; so the entire temple has been constructed from granite stones. Numerous temples at this region is also madder from the granite stones.
