Kerala Sivagiri Temple - The Sivagri Temple also known as the Sivagri Mutt was founded by the renowned Hindu reformer Sree Naravana Guru. He condemned the social system of dowry, spread anti-liquor awareness, introduced reforms in marriage rites and fought against other social vices. The Sivagri Temple was designed by Sree Naravana Guru as a seat of the goddess Saraswathy, the goddess of knowledge. The goddess was enshrined in the Sivagri Temple on a full moon night in April 1912. The deity is seated on a white lotus. The Guru Deva Jayanti, the birthday of the Guru, and the Samadhi day are celebrated here respectively in August and September every year. On these occasions, colorful processions, seminars, public meetings, cultural shows, community feasts and special rituals are observed with much enthusiasm.
Sivagri Temple is about 45 kilometers from Thiruvananthapuram and local tourist buses ply to the
Kerala Sivagiri Temple very frequently.
