Mohiniattam is a traditional graceful Dances in Kerala . It is mostly a solo recital by a female. The literal meaning of Mohiniattam is , Mohini means an enchantress and attam means graceful body movements .
This dance form is inspired by the other two South Indian dance forms , Bharathanatyam and Kathakali. Mohiniattam involves swaying movement of the body , creating an impression of swaying palm trees and meandering rivers, which are typical feature of Kerala. There as many as 40 different movements in Mohiniattam known as atavukal .
The danseuse is always attired in white saree lined with golden brocade at the ends.The vocal music in the background has different rhythm known as chollu. The lyrics are a combination of Sanskrit and Malayalam .
Mohiniattam dance involves soft gestures of hand with synchronized footwork as well as subtle eye expressions.
Classical Dance in Kerala - Another classical dance form of Kerala is Kathakali which is 300 years old and has earned Kerala world fame .Kathakali is a delightful merge of dance, rituals, ballet,opera , music as well as mime. This dance form was earlier performed only in the temples but now dance recitals are on stage as well.
Kathakali is a synchronized dance form of combination of fine arts like:

Kathakali shows usually starts at night and continues till the wee hours of morning. A host of singers and percussionists accompanies the dance performer.A Kathakali performer has to use skills , physical energy, concentration to enact the whole dance.
