Climate of Ladakh
Ladakh lies at altitude ranging from about 9000 ft (2750m) at Kargil to 25,170 ft (7672m) at Saser Kangri in the Karakoram.
Thus the summer temperatures rarely exceed 27-degree celcius the shade, while in winter, the temperature may plummer to -20-degree celcius even in Leh.
Surprisingly, though, the thin air makes the heat of the sun even more intense than at lower altitudes; it is said that only in Ladakh can a man sitting in the sun with his feet in the shade suffer from sunstroke and frostbite at the same time!
Climate of Ladakh, The altitude range causes wide variations in climate even within Ladakh, but in general summer is short and mild and winter chilling and bitter.
The cold weather begins in September/October and lasts till May. The hottest and the coldest months are July and January respectively.
