Tourist Places In Lakshadweep - ANDROTH, a tourist place in Lakshadweep, is the nearest
island to the mainland and has an east-west alignment
which is quite different from other islands lying in
north-south direction.
This is the Largest island in the Lakshadweep. The
scenic beauty of the place is enhanced by dense vegetation
mainly of coconut groves.
Androth was the first island where the people embraced
the religion Islam.
It was Saint Ubaidullah,who its is said , converted
the people of islands to Islam. At Androth you will
find his tomb at Juma'at Mosque.
You will find at Androth a flourishing fishing industry
next only to Minicoy and Agatti
There has been a regular traffic in Lakshadweep between
Beypore and Androth. Most of the ships and country boats
make a stoppage at Androth and then travel to their
other destinations.
The Government of India at East end of Androth Island
constructed the first modern Lighthouse Tower in Lakshadweep.
The tower was completed in 1966 The Lighthouse was commissioned
into service on 1st May 1967and is just 3 Km by road
from Jetty. This is one of the major tourist attraction
at Androth.
