Ooty - Location
Ooty is nestled in the verdant hills of the Niligris. The beautiful hill resort is situated at an altitude of 2,268 m and is part of Tamil Nadu.
Ooty - History
Most hill stations in India are founded and developed by the British and Ooty is no exception. It was founded by the British in the 19th century. The British found Ooty similar to England and this is how Lord Lytton, Viceroy of India described Ooty to his wife "…such beautiful English rain, such delicious English mud."

Coimbatore is the nearest airport to Ooty, which is 105 kilometres from Ooty. Those who want to enjoy a train ride can choose the Swiss Vintage Hill train that runs from Mettupalayam via Coonoor. The train ride offers excellent views of the region. Ooty is also well connected by road to other parts of the country. From Bangalore, Ooty is about 298 kilometres.
